»Bei katarischen Securityfirmen kommt es zu Zwangsarbeit von Migranten «

Bericht von Amnesty International, 7.4.2022 (engl. Originalfassung)

Caleb was just 24 years old when he arrived in Qatar in 2016, one of hundreds of thousands of people who migrated to Qatar after the country was awarded the right to host the 2022 football World Cup. When he saw a job advertisement for security guards in Qatar, he jumped at the opportunity. Caleb raised USD 900 to pay a recruitment agency in Kenya and then set off. “When you decide to leave your country, you are going to try and look for the best for your life”, he told Amnesty International. The reality of life as a migrant worker in Qatar was far worse than he expected, an experience shared by so many others. Caleb has been exploited and abused by one of Qatar’s largest private security companies that has provided guards for some of the country’s highest profile projects, including international football tournaments.
