Originalfassung)

The number of countries announcing pledges to achieve net-zero emissions over the coming decades continues to grow. But the pledges by governments to date – even if fully achieved – fall well short of what is required to bring global energy-related carbon dioxide emissions to net zero by 2050 and give the world an even chance of limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5 °C.

COVID-19 remains a global disaster. Worse, it was a preventable disaster. That is why the recommendations of the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response are urgent and vital.

Originalfassung)

Since the beginning of the twenty-first century, Germany has experienced three major economic slumps with strikingly different labour market outcomes: the long-lasting economic stagnation following the economic downturn after the bursting of the dot-com bubble and the first Gulf war (Herzog-Stein, Lindner, and Zwiener 2013), the Great Recession as a consequence of the global financial and economic crisis (Herzog-Stein, Lindner, and Sturn 2018), and now the Coronavirus Crisis as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Originalfassung)

The physical drivers of Arctic change continue to change rapidly. Key indicators such as temperature, precipitation, snow cover, sea ice thickness and extent, and permafrost thaw show rapid and widespread changes underway in the Arctic. An important update is that the increase in Arctic annual mean surface temperature (land and ocean) between 1971 and 2019 was three times higher than the increase in the global average during the same period. This is higher than reported in previous AMAP assessments.

»Methanemissionen müssen drastisch reduziert werden«

Bericht der Climate & Clean Air Coalition, 6.5.2021 (engl. Originalfassung)

Today humanity is facing three systemic and escalating planetary crises: the climate crisis, the biodiversity and nature crisis, and the pollution and waste crisis. These
crises are not independent but linked and often stem from the same sources and unsustainable models of consumption and production. These links provide an opportunity to identify and deploy solutions which deliver multiple-benefits and the ambitious emissions reductions needed to overcome these crises.

Originalfassung)

I stand here tonight, one day shy of the 100th day of my administration — 100 days since I took the oath of office and lifted my hand off our family Bible and inherited a nation — we all did — that was in crisis.

The worst pandemic in a century.  The worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.  The worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.

Originalfassung)

Each year on this day, we remember the lives of all those who died in the Ottoman-era Armenian genocide and recommit ourselves to preventing such an atrocity from ever again occurring. Beginning on April 24, 1915, with the arrest of Armenian intellectuals and community leaders in Constantinople by Ottoman authorities, one and a half million Armenians were deported, massacred, or marched to their deaths in a campaign of extermination. We honor the victims of the Meds Yeghern so that the horrors of what happened are never lost to history.

Originalfassung)

If COVID-19 has taught us nothing else, it is that we need a new approach to caring for each other in this country. And there is no better time to raise these issues than in the months leading up to an election. We need to insist on an alternative path, one based on a new vision of the role of care in Canada.

The chronic failure to adequately deal with care issues reflects several assumptions that must be challenged.

Bericht der Weltorganisation für Meteorologie, 19.4.2021 (engl. Originalfassung)

Mobility restrictions, economic downturns and disruptions to the agricultural sector exacerbated the effects of extreme weather and climate events along the entire food supply chain, elevating levels of food insecurity and slowing the delivery of humanitarian assistance.

Bericht des World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF), 14.4.2021 (engl. Originalfassung)

Around the world, forests and other natural ecosystems like grasslands, wetlands and savannahs continue to be destroyed at an alarming rate. This contributes to climate change and the loss of biodiversity and the vital services that nature provides. The expansion of agriculture in tropical regions remains the biggest threat to forests and other natural ecosystems, leading to the conversion of around 5 million hectares of forests into agricultural land per year between 2005 and 2017.

Rede von US-Präsident Joe Biden, 14.4.2021 (engl. Originalfassung)

I’m now the fourth United States President to preside over American troop presence in Afghanistan: two Republicans, two Democrats. I will not pass this responsibility on to a fifth.

After consulting closely with our allies and partners, with our military leaders and intelligence personnel, with our diplomats and our development experts, with the Congress and the Vice President, as well as with Mr. Ghani and many others around the world, I have concluded that it’s time to end America’s longest war.  It’s time for American troops to come home.
