This morning, in a powerful surprise attack, we destroyed the compound of the tyrant Khamenei in the heart of Tehran. For three and a half decades, this cruel tyrant has exported terror around the world, made his people miserable, and worked tirelessly, without ceasing, on the plan to destroy Israel.
That plan is no more. And there are many signs that the tyrant himself is no more.

Wir verurteilen die iranischen Angriffe auf Staaten in der Region auf das Schärfste. Iran muss seine willkürlichen Militärschläge unterlassen. Wir rufen zu einer Wiederaufnahme der Verhandlungen auf und fordern die iranische Führung, eine Verhandlungslösung zu finden. Letztendlich muss es dem iranischen Volk erlaubt sein, ihre eigene Zukunft zu gestalten.

Heute vor vier Jahren begann Russland seinen breit angelegten und völkerrechtswidrigen Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine. Einmal mehr zollen wir dem mutigen Volk der Ukraine Respekt, das weiterhin Widerstand leistet und sein Land verteidigt.

A just peace is impossible without justice. We support the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression and insist on holding those responsible to account through all available international legal mechanisms. Frozen Russian state assets must be transferred to Ukraine. All Ukrainian citizens held in Russian captivity and illegally deported children must be returned immediately. Impunity for the aggressor precludes any just peace.

What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.

Under current conditions, what is profitable for businesses often results in loss of biodiversity and what is good for biodiversity and society is often not profitable. This undermines their ability to take actions that address long-term outcomes with system-level implications. Creating an enabling environment that provides incentives for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people could align what is profitable with what is good for biodiversity and society.

This is a betrayal of the very people this process is supposed to serve.

Am 5. Februar 2026 läuft der New-START-Vertrag, der 2011 zwischen den Vereinigten Staaten und der russischen Föderation in Kraft trat, endgültig aus. Dies ist eine historische Zäsur, denn nach 50 Jahren erfolgreichen Beschränkungsbemühungen, Abrüstungsverpflichtungen und Verifikationsregulierungen gibt es zwischen beiden nuklearen Großmächten keinerlei beschränkende Rüstungskontrollabkommen mehr.

Ich kenne diesen Gerichtssaal hier nun seit einem Jahr. 16 Verhandlungstage saß ich gefesselt auf der Holzbank hinter mir und lauschte aufmerksam, wie in diesem Prozess über mein Leben verhandelt wird. Zu den Vorwürfen schwieg ich. Wenig mehr als zwei Wochen Verhandlungstage waren dies. Aber wenn ich in den Spiegel blicke, dann müssen es Jahre gewesen sein. Beim ersten Versuch, ein „letztes Wort“ für dieses Verfahren zu finden, beschrieb ich mein heutiges „Ich“ als eine „verwelkende Blume“. For weeks now, people across the country have been rightly outraged by the spectacle of masked ICE recruits and other federal agents acting with impunity and engaging in tactics that seem designed to intimidate, harass, provoke and endanger the residents of a major American city. These unprecedented tactics — which even the former top lawyer of the Department of Homeland Security in the first Trump administration has characterized as embarrassing, lawless and cruel — have now resulted in the fatal shootings of two U.S citizens.

Despite these horrific acts by the federal government, Minnesotans are still standing up for the rule of law and the dignity of all people. They are protesting – loudly, urgently, but also peacefully – and it must stay that way. Minnesotans are witnessing, creating a log of evidence for future prosecution of ICE agents and officials. They are helping their neighbors, walking their kids to school, and feeding their families. I salute their courage – and their restraint.

Die sogenannte syrische Übergangsregierung in Damaskus, dominiert von Akteuren der ehemals al-Qaida-nahen Organisation Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), führt derzeit einen neuen, gezielt eskalierten Krieg gegen die Autonome Selbstverwaltung Nord- und Ostsyriens (DAANES), auch bekannt als Rojava. Dieser Krieg droht Syrien in eine neue Phase massiver Gewalt zu stürzen und stellt eine ernsthafte Gefahr für die regionale wie internationale Sicherheit dar.

The world is already in the state of “water bankruptcy”. In many basins and aquifers, long-term overuse and degradation mean that past hydrological and ecological baselines cannot realistically be restored. While not every basin or country is water-bankrupt, enough critical systems around the world have crossed these thresholds, and are interconnected through trade, migration, climate feedbacks, and geopolitical dependencies, that the global risk landscape is now fundamentally altered.

Today, I’ll talk about the rupture in the world order, the end of a nice story, and the beginning of a brutal reality where geopolitics among the great powers is not subject to any constraints.

But I also submit to you that other countries, particularly middle powers like Canada, are not powerless. They have the capacity to build a new order that embodies our values, like respect for human rights, sustainable development, solidarity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of states.

The power of the less powerful begins with honesty.
